The Jackson-Madison County School District held a belated celebration of the 2009-2010 AYP scores. The previous school year marked the first time since the passing of the “No Child Left Behind” Act that the district was in good standing. Also, the graduation rate increased to 91.5 percent. Plus, 8th and 11th graders district- wide scored and A for their three-year writing average. “It’s huge and we need to stay at that level, said Doctor Nancy Zambito, superintendent of Jackson-Madison County Schools. “It’s just a basic level, we need to skyrocket off from there.” Doctor Zambito said they would have liked to have held this celebrations closer to when the results were released in January, but due to the winter weather and frequent snow days, they were unable to.
