Lambuth Announces it’s Closing
After months of fighting to stay open and continue a 168 year presence in West Tennessee, Lambuth University has announced they will be closing their doors. After the board of trustees met Thursday morning, students and faculty were gathered for a private meeting. Lambuth President Doctor Bill Seymour announced that as of June 30, Lambuth will no longer be an academic institute. Graduation in two weeks will still go on as planned, however, the remaining students will have to work closely with the faculty to find a new school to attend in the fall. The board will work with faculty members to determine what the need for them will be in the coming weeks. Thursday morning, students rallied to show the board support for them regardless of their decisions. Those high spirited students say the harsh news did not come easy. “When they told us the actual fate of the university, there was audible mourning. I’ve never seen such displays of sadness,” said Lambuth Junior Sydney Burngasser. As for the campus, Dr. Seymour says there are about four state schools that have shown interest in purchasing the property so education can continue there.
