Man Dies In Shootout With Knoxville Police
Knoxville police fatally shot a man who said he wasn’t going back to jail and then raised a gun at them.
Police Chief David Rausch says the man called 911 shortly before midnight Thursday, saying he had outstanding warrants and didn’t intend to go back to jail, according to WVLT-TV.
An officer spotted the man’s car a short time later and police say the man showed a gun and drove off. The officer followed the car on I-275 until the suspect suddenly stopped. By that time, there were four officers at the scene.
Rausch says the man raised his gun toward the officers and they opened fire. The man was taken to University of Tennessee Hospital, where he died early Friday. His identity wasn’t immediately released.
