Severe Storms Death Toll Rises to 9 in 2 states

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – Gov. Mike Beebe says two deaths in Little Rock have pushed the death toll from violent weather in Arkansas to seven. Little Rock police spokesman Terry Hastings says a tree fell on a Little Rock home, killing an 8-year-old boy and his mother who had climbed into bed with him as a severe storm moved through the city overnight. Hastings says an infant sleeping in another room was not hurt. The violent weather was part of a complex of storms that hit the Southern Plains and Mid-South late Thursday and early Friday. Other Arkansas deaths occurred in Bald Knob, Colt, Scott and two in Garland County. Nationally, the death toll stands at nine. A tornado killed two elderly sisters at Tushka in southeastern Oklahoma.
