Tree Planted to Honor Child Abuse Victims
In Gibson County, a special tree planting was held in hopes of raising awareness of child abuse prevention throughout the area. At the Trenton City Park, a tree with 201 blue ribbons tied to it was placed in the park. The ribbons represent the number of child abuse victims served by the Carl Perkins Center in Gibson County last year. “You are talking about human beings and this is something that we need to know about,” said Trenton Mayor Tony Burriss. “It is something that we all are responsible for and I am really glad that they put this up so that we can remember that no everybody is as fortunate as we are.” According to the center, statistics show only one out of every ten children who are abused tell someone about it. April is designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
