Youth Help at Michie City Park

Monday, 4th and 5th graders at Michie Elementary School got to enjoy all their hard work. All 103 students who make up the two grades got to enjoy a day at the Michie City Park that they helped to revamp. They participated in the project, called “Building Together with Helping Hands”, which is part of the global youth service day. With the help of a few adult volunteers, they did everything from painting to sanding to pouring concrete. Teachers said the event was about more than just a day of work. “I hope that they learned how to serve their community. I hope that they learned the good feeling that it gets to help other people,” said “Debra Steen, a science teacher at Michie Elementary. The renovations top the Michie Park cost a few thousand dollars, all paid for through grants and donations from area businesses and the City of Michie.
