Bank of Friendship Robbed
The saying “small towns get no action” didn’t prove true in the town of Friendship this morning. Just before 9, police received a call of a bank robbery at the Bank of Friendship. Investigators said the subject approached the teller, made a verbal demand for money, and forced his way behind the counter. The subject then fled with an undetermined amount of cash. “The subject is described as a male, black, approximately 6‘1″-6‘3″, heavy build, wearing a black shirt, jeans, black belt, black shoes, a black mask, white gardening gloves, and carrying a small dark colored back-pack,” said a news release issued by the FBI. Gary Marbry, owner of a automotive repair shop that sits directly across from the bank, said he looked across the street and saw employees of the bank beating on the window from inside. He then looked and saw a black Nissan Altima cranking its engine. He said the car sped down Depot Street at a very high speed. Marbry got in his wrecker and proceeded to chase the alleged robber, only to loose him in the chase. “Well you always expect the little banks to get robbed, they’re out away from everyone, not a lot of security here so it’s understandable I guess. You just hate it and hope no one gets hurt, we know those ladies,” said Teresa Williams, a nearby business owner. Sheriff Troy Klyce of Crockett County Sheriff’s Department says they had just completed a safety training day with the employees of the Bank of Friendship. “I think they are more vulnerable because they are isolated. You take a bank like Friendship there are so many places you can go from here and just be nowhere,” said Klyce.
