Madison Co. Home Split by Tree
One Madison County family is counting their blessing this evening after a near miss with a 200-year-old oak tree. The massive tree was uprooted on Elmhurst Drive, splitting one family’s house in two. Homeowner and Jackson Generals general manager Tom Hanson said about 11:30, Tuesday night, he and his wife heard debris hitting the roof and within moments, the tree suddenly came crashing down. Hanson and his wife were trapped in their bedroom and were forced to climb out through a window. He said the most frightening moment came after they were out of the house. “It was scary especially when we yelling upstairs for our son who was sleeping upstairs and we weren’t getting acknowledgment from him that he was of and so he worked his way down the stairs and then every thing was alright from there when we knew everybody was OK”, said homeowner, Tom Hanson. Hanson said he does not know if they will be able to salvage anything in the house and they have not gone back in because they felt it was too dangerous.
