Church Secretary Accused Of Theft
Johnson City Police have charged a church secretary with stealing nearly a quarter-million dollars from the congregation she worked for.
Investigators arrested 32-year-old Jessica Lynn Tramel of Bristol on Thursday, charging her with theft over $60,000.
The investigation began when the Unaka Avenue Baptist Church found more than $229,000 missing from a church checking account. Tramel handled church financial records. She is accused of forging checks and making them payable to herself.
On Friday morning, Tramel was held in the Washington County Detention Center, where records did not show whether she yet had an attorney.
