Storms Give Jackson Residents a Scare
Jackson residents are picking up the pieces, after Monday night’s storm gave some residents a little more than a scare. One resident says his car was blown straight across a couple of lanes of traffic, and another man was just sitting in his room at a local nursing home, when a piece of the roof blew off. Walter Brown, says, he regrets firing up the old truck, and taking a trip to Steak-N-Shake in the middle of Monday night’s storm. Brown, adds, “I should have never got it.” Worst $7.67 he says, he ever spent because as he was driving home, going east on Vann Drive, winds going anywhere from 65 to 80 miles per hour, according to him, actually lifted up his truck, moved it a couple lanes over, and spun it in the other direction. Brown, adds, “It was so scary. The winds got so high, that I just jumped out and left the truck where it was.” Brown, says, while he ran back to Steak-N-Shake, the truck ended up down an embankment, and into the Wal-Mart parking lot, where he is left, of course, with no food, and without a working truck. According to Brown, “This is probably the scariest situation I’ve ever been in my whole entire life.” And his scary situation was not the only one of the night. Robert Hale, says, he was sitting in his room at the Forest Cove Nursing Home, when he heard a boom. Hale, adds, “I thought oh, my God, the tornado has hit down just enough to take the roof off this thing.” Nurses came to his rescue, he admits, and moved him to another room. They say the repairs mean a couple days of work with a price tag of $80,000. But even as they work, they are waiting to see if the new storms heading our way, is packing a one-two punch. According to Madison County EMA Director, Marty Clements, no one was injured in the storm, but at least 25 structures have been damaged so far.
