MS Storm Death Toll Climbs
Mississippi’s death toll from last week’s tornadoes has risen to 36.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says 80-year-old Helen Noe of Smithville died Wednesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo from injuries she suffered when the tornado struck her home on April 27.
Gurley says the death toll in Monroe County now stands at 16, with 15 of those in Smithville, which was nearly wiped off the map by the storm.
Greg Flynn, a spokesman with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, says 163 people were injured in the storms.
