West Tennessee Couple Rallies for Alabama Tornado Victims

Jackson’s Journey Church is not your typical house of God. In fact, they have no house at all. “We are an entirely portable church, meaning we do not have a home that is our permanent facility,” said Pastor Jeremy Brown. Everything they need is unloaded and reloaded in an equipment trailer, which will soon be packed with donations and enroute to Northern Alabama, one of the hardest areas hit by last week’s deadly tornadoes. “In two weeks is when they are really going to need help anyway down there,” said church member, Blaire Shook. “After the tornado hit around the Mt. Hope area and the Hatton area where I grew up, when we saw it on TV that night I thought, I wish I could come up with something we can do,” said Shook. He and his wife Kasie began collecting donations for storm victims. “Mine and my wife’s kitchen area is about full right now,” Shook laughed. However, it was not long until church leaders jumped on board. “We are a church that really wants to get behind them being a part of that, rather than them waiting for the church to do something,” Brown said. After a quick visit to see the devastation in person, the volunteers knew one visit was not going to be enough. “That is what happened this week when we went down there. It became personal, it became obvious that real people with real lives were affected in a very significant way,” said Brown. Now the volunteers are asking anyone who can to give just a little for those who have lost so much. “Gas cards, Walmart gift cards, things of that nature so that way they can go and buy the stuff that most people do not think about donating for everyday life,” said Shook. The volunteers will collect donations through next Friday. You can drop off donations at Kid’s First Daycare or contact Blaire or Kasie Shook at (731) 431-2898 or (731) 431-2887.
