Man Stabbed in the Head in Dyersburg
The Boxley family spent most of Monday in silence. After they say a fight between James Boxley and his nephew turned violent. “My brother and my nephew, the victim, Issac Atkins got into it during the day,” said Issac Akins, James Boxley’s brother. Police say Boxley stabbed 23-year-old Akins in the head with a medium sized kitchen knife. They say when they arrived, Akins was lying outside his home, the knife, still in his head. “It effects everybody, you see my attitude, we hurt. It’s a family thing, we hurt,” said Boxley’s brother. The family said Boxley was so distraught, that he took off. “He didn’t just intentionally just go out and harm this child that is his nephew he raised this boy,” explained Boxley’s brother. On Sunday, Akins died at The Med in Memphis, the same day, police said they found James Boxley barricaded inside his home. “He finally agreed to come out, but he had injured himself,” said Chief Art Heun, of the Dyersburg Police Department. The family said after the incident, Boxley tried to take his own life, also with a knife. Currently, he is being treated at The Med in Memphis, leaving Akins’ mother torn up about her son’s death and her brother’s attempted suicide. “That is her brother. She love him and everything will be all right,” explained the victims aunt, Rita Akins. Even though family members do not want to press charges against Boxley, police said they have no choice. “This is a crime that’s been committed against the state, He attempted murder,” said Chief Heun.
