Opry Mills Renovations Underway

Renovations have begun at the Opry Mills mall, closed since flooding last May from the nearby Cumberland River.

According to The Tennessean newspaper, city codes officials issued a $750,000 rehabilitation permit to the mall April 28 to renovate back areas that are usually unseen by shoppers. Some tenants at the mall plan to reopen this fall and others next spring. There will be more than 200 stores when it reopens fully.

Officials have said flooding caused more than $200 million in damages.

The permit also includes the demolition of two tenant spaces in the mall area.

The old Opryland USA theme park was torn down so the mall could be built at the site, near the Grand Ole Opry House and the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center.
