MS Graduation Rates Up

Graduation rates are on the rise at Mississippi public universities.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that about 9,550 degrees are being awarded at the eight public universities this month, a slight increase from last May.

Another 5,965 degrees were awarded in August and September. That pushes the total 5.4 percent above the 14,645 degrees awarded during the 2009-10 academic year.

Higher Education Commissioner Hank Bounds said the increased rate is due to more enrollment, along with better retention efforts on the eight campuses.
