Cell Tower Copper Stolen
A string of Henderson County break ins could be affecting your cell phone service if you live in the area. Investigators say more than six separate cell phone tower locations have been broken into since March. The most recent incident was called in Monday morning. Reports show the thieves are cutting copper wiring from utility boxes and leaving behind hundreds of dollars worth of damage in the process. This puts the tower out of service causing cell phones in the area to have little to no reception until utility workers can set up a generator. Now investigators are asking for help from the community to ensure this does not happen again. “If they live close to one of these cell phone towers and they see a vehicle going in, call. Call the sheriff’s department,” said Captain Tracey Grisham of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department. County officials said most of the towers hit are leased out to cellular companies such as Sprint, AT&T, and Clear Talk.
