Construction on a new Social Security Administration call center for Jackson and Madison County has been halted, along with 200 potential new job opportunities. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist told ABC 7 Eyewitness News that work on the building has stopped after funding for the project was eliminated. Social Security Administration executives had hoped the building and new jobs would be available by the end of the year. The mayor said he was told the project would be delayed at least one year and possibly longer while the funding is sorted put.
