Senate Vote Set For Judge Gun BIll
A proposal that would allow Tennessee judges to carry guns in courtrooms is headed for a full Senate vote.
The measure sponsored by Republican Sen. Stacey Campfield of Knoxville passed the Senate Judiciary Committee 6-2 on Tuesday. The companion bill was approved in the House 87-8 earlier this month.
Currently, any law enforcement officer can carry a firearm at all times and anywhere in the state.
The proposal allows judges to carry during their judicial duties as long as they go through the same weapons training required of officers, including a 16-hour safety course and annual eight-hour refresher courses.
