Governor Attends First Megasite Board Meeting
Governor Bill Haslam met with elected leaders from several counties Monday to discuss the latest on the West Tennessee Megasite. Planners told Governor Haslam it could take up to two more years to complete construction of water treatment and waste-water treatment facilities. Authorities say several key steps, including engineering and environmental studies have finished, allowing more work to begin. Even though no prospect has been named, planners say that a company could begin their own construction, while such utility work is completed. Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith was appointed chairman of the state team that is overseeing the megasite. This was the first official meeting of the newly formed governing committee.
