The Lexington City Board of Alderman have been meeting throughout the month to discuss how to handle the upcoming budget year with a more than a $1 million deficit. Mayor Bobby Dyer said the board has recommended funding cuts in several areas including a $139,000 cut from the street department. After a tough budget year last year, Mayor Dyer sais he want the alderman to make their decisions from a business aspect and not political. He said that includes making decisions promptly so members of the community can be informed about what is ahead of them. “These people that work for the city are going home at night not knowing if they’re going to have a job when we finish this budget. They need to be told where we stand and what the thinking of this board is,” said Mayor Dyer. Mayor Dyer says he hope to discuss ways to bring in more revenue to the city at a meeting with the alderman, Monday night. The budget year begins on July 1.
