Students and staff at a local high school are being honored for their good health. The good health of the Liberty Tech High School did not go unnoticed by West Tennessee Healthcare. Leaders of the “Getting Healthier” effort said good habits and the school nurse program helped students attend more school with less visits to the doctor and early dismissal. “We look at our data from our school nurse report to see how man students are visiting the nurse. The reason why they’re visiting the school nurse and the outcomes as well.” said Annette Wilson, Jackson-Madison County Schools health administrator. “Studies have shown with our data that when a school nurse is in the building, more times than not, the student goes back to class versus being sent home.” System leaders said they hope the good health practices continue to follow students as they are home for summer and to college in the fall.
