Jackson city leaders took time to honor the work and research of area hearing and speech doctors. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist recognized speech pathologists in Jackson and Madison County, by proclaiming the month of May, Better Hearing and Speech month. The award was presented during a reception at the West Tennessee Hearing ands Speech Center along Ridgecrest Road in north Jackson, Tuesday afternoon. Organizers said they hope the event raises awareness to help those who suffer from speech and hearing disorders in West Tennessee. “There are 42 million Americans who have a communication disorder. So, for the Jackson area that means one in 10 residents of the Jackson-Madison County area with a communication disorder, we want the community to know that there are professionals here in the area who can help them,” said Kimberli Moore of the West TN Hearing & Speech Center. There are 42 speech pathologists and audiologists in Jackson-Madison County area.
