MS Teacher Faces Sex Charges

A former teacher and coach at St. Martin High School has been indicted four felony charges of engaging in sex acts with a student aide.

The Sun Herald reports 39-year-old Robert Griffin of Ocean Springs first was arrested in March 2010, and charged with molestation of a child under the age of 16, and sexual battery.

After a Jackson County grand jury reviewed the case, Griffin was indicted on two counts each of sexual battery and touching of a child for lustful purposes while in a position of authority in 2009.

Griffin, who pleaded not guilty to the two initial charges in 2010, is out of jail on bond. His trial date is Aug. 15.

Prior to his arrest, Griffin had coached the girls’ basketball team.
