Man Accused of Stealing Gas Can
Gas is a much needed commodity, but according to deputies in Obion County, the length that one Kentucky man allegedly went to in order to fill up, landed him behind bars. Investigators say Joseph Shane McNeill, 35, stole a can of gas from right under one grandmother’s nose, after he ran out of gas. A quick ruffle of the sheets and a switch of the coffee pot; it is just a normal say in Edie Woodruff’s Union City neighborhood. That was until she peeked out her blinds. Woodruff says, “I looked out my bedroom window and saw a young man walking down the driveway.” Thinking that was a bit unusual, she listened for a knock and heard nothing. She looked out a few back windows, but saw no one. Woodruff adds, “I came back to the bedroom window and he was walking down my driveway with my can of gas.” McNeil walked into Woodruff’s garage and helped himself to two gallons of gas, but that did not fly with Woodruff, so she got in her car and took off after him. Woodruff says, “I put down the window and told him to set the can down. He said no.” That was not a good enough answer for Woodruff, so she swung her car around, cornered him, and demanded he drop her gas can. Woodruff adds, “McNeill said, well, man I was going to bring it back to you. I said that’s not the point, that is my can set it down.” Sylvia Jones, a resident, says, “I would have done the exactly what the woman did. I would ask him why he was getting my gas.” McNeill is now in jail for burglary and theft of property. Woodruff admits she was a lot more mad than scared. She says went to great lengths to remind McNeill that you do not walk onto someone’s property and act like it is yours. Bond has not been set for McNeill. His next court date is June 2nd.
