TN State Fair Control Debated

A Tennessee state senator says the issue of which agency will provide supervision of the state fair will return in January.

State Sen. Joe Haynes, D-Nashville, told The Tennessean he considered asking the full Senate to vote on his proposal to give the Tennessee Department of Agriculture oversight for the state fair to possibly move the measure along in the House of Representatives. But, Haynes said, he opted to drop it for the session and leave it for next year.

The bill never advanced out of committee in the House.

The state fair is currently overseen by a board appointed by the Metro Nashville government.

The measure would allow the department to select an outside group to run the fair.
