Shiloh Remembers the Fallen

Hundreds gathered at Shiloh National Military Park, Monday, to remember those who have sacrificed and given their lives for our country. “Well it makes me think of all those that I knew, as well as, others that didn’t come back,” said J.R. Long, a World War II veteran. Long said he has attended the Memorial Day observance at Shiloh Park for more than 30 years. “I had four brothers, no sisters, four of us rolled up to be in the service at the same time,” said Long. Long said all of his brothers returned home from service. The memorial service included the presentation of colors and a memorial address from a Lieutenant General. “To have a dynamic speaker like General Cross this year and have perfect weather and this big crowd, it’s just the perfect event,” said Superintendent Woody Harrell of Shiloh National Military Park. Supt. Harrell said with the strong winds that hit West Tennessee last week, they did not know whether the event would happen. “When we came in Thursday morning, there wasn’t a section of our tour ride that didn’t have at least one tree over it, so it was quite a mess, it look like a battle zone,” said Supt. Harrell.
