Boone Lane Deputy Involved in Shooting
A Madison County Sheriff’s deputy is at the center of an investigation into the fatal shooting a man during what was supposed to be a routine, early morning arrest. Christopher B. Reid, 25, of Madison County, was at a home in the 600 block of Boone Lane when deputies arrived to serve an outstanding arrest warrant for violation of community corrections, Thursday morning. However, when they made contact with Reid, deputies said he fled out the back door and into an open field, leading officers on a brief chase. The chase came to a halt when Reid allegedly pulled a knife on the officers. Reports show they repeatedly told Reid to drop the knife, but he instead lunged toward one of the officers. This prompted officer Paul J. Capps, 25, to fire two gunshots, fatally wounding Reid. Deputy Capps, who has been with the department since August of 2007, is in on routine administrative leave until the investigation is complete. Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have been asked to help in the investigation, which is routine policy for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
