Residents in east Jackson are fed up with area crime, so they took their voices to the streets to let everyone know during Friday’s Anti-Crime March in east Jackson . “We are just really tired of it,” said one participant. Anti-crime marches are not new to the community. However, in light of Monday’s homicide investigation, when authorities said Marketis Bailey, 22, of Jackson, was gunned down in broad daylight. Residents hope Friday’s march will ignite the community to take action. “Someone saw what happened that day. They need to come forward so this family can have justice done,” said Norma Ellington. Ellington knows all too well what it feels like to lose a loved one to street crime. “I lost a son back in 2009 to senseless crime,” she said. On Friday Ellington comforted the Bailey family, knowing little can be done to ease their pain. “He did some wrong but he did not deserve to die,” said Felisha Bailey, the victim’s aunt. Bailey’s murderer remains at large. “We are developing a time line of where Mr. Bailey was prior to the murder,” said Jackson Police Lt. Tyreece Miller. The Bailey family said they are depending on the community and the Jackson Police Department to bring this criminal to justice. “We will bring you to justice,” said Bailey. “We will prosecute to to the fullest because you did not have to take my nephew like that.” Community leaders said the next Anti-Crime March is scheduled for June, 17 in east Jackson. Investigators encourage anyone with information that could help find this violent criminal to contact the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400.
