There is a new disaster center up and running in Jackson to help those with disabilities who were affected by the recent flooding and storms. The temporary disaster recovery center is located inside the Jackson Center for Independent Living or J-CIL on Hollywood Drive. It will serve those with special needs in eight west Tennessee counties. Organizers said FEMA is working closely with groups such as J-CIL to ensure access and resources are available to west Tennesseans who need them most. “They are working together to make sure that people with disabilities who come through the door are going to receive the kind of assistance that they need, just like everyone else,” said James Flemming, a FEMA Disability Integration Specialist. The new disaster recovery center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
