Jackson Animal Ordinance Fails

In a vote of seven to one, the Jackson City Council has defeated a measure to put restrictions on pet owners in the city. Outgoing Councilman Frank Neudecker was the only member to vote in favor of the measure. The proposed ordinance would have required fences or pens for dogs and made it illegal to tether an animal to any object as a means of confinement. The proposal also stated that a person could not own more animals than “could be maintained” and that the amount of animals could not be a threat to health and safety of the resident or neighbors. It is expected that the newly elected city council will tackle the same issue after taking office next month.
