Obion County Farmer Injured While Riding Tractor
For area farmers roads like the Ken-Tenn Highway in Obion County can become dangerous, even deadly. “I have had three or four friends killed in tractor accidents,” said Randy Stroud. Stroud works for a man who is recovering after being hit by an 18-wheeler while on his farming tractor. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the man had just pulled out of his home’s driveway and was about to make a left turn into his business less than 50 yards away when an 18-wheeler changed lanes to pass him, but clipped him instead. “I seen him coming and then I heard a big boom, clash,” Stroud said. He was one of the first people on the scene and helped pull his 80-year-old boss out of the wreckage. The crash victim was flown to The Med in Memphis where Stroud said he underwent surgery after breaking both of his legs, arms and his hip. However, Stroud said it could have been a lot worse if it was not for a piece of farming equipment called the “Lilly”, which prevented the tractor from rolling on top of the farmer. “Lucky he had it, it saved his life,” said Stroud. With a couple close calls of his own, Stroud is asking motorists to be more careful when driving near or around farming equipment. “Two or three seconds, slow down just a little bit. It could have prevented this accident,” Stroud said. According to close friends, the farmer is in stable condition. Troopers said the man who hit him was cited for failure to yield and a log book violation.
