Factory in Brownsville Closes
The Haywood Elements Company has closed its doors, Chamber of Commerce leader Joe Ing says. The company made the announcement late Monday, employees tell ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Haywood Elements has been in operation since 1985, specializing in custom heating elements, according to county records. At times, Ing says the plant employed nearly 50 workers, but in recent years has been operating with about 30. State workforce officials say no official notification was filed from Haywood Elements. However such notifications are not required for layoffs that involve less than 50 employees. Ing says the focus now is “finding work for this skilled workforce.” The Chamber has placed several calls to area industries in an attempt to help relocate some of these former employees, Ing adds. Our calls to John Finn, Manager of Haywood Elements, were not returned.
