Jackson Dad Arrested for Child Neglect
A Jackson father has been arrested after his two young children were found playing in the middle of a busy intersection wearing only dirty diapers. Christopher David Hamilton, 24, appeared in Jackson City Court, Wednesday, on a charge of child neglect or endangerment. According to court documents, Hamilton’s 1-year-old and 3-year-old were found playing in the street at Prospect and Walnut around 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, by neighbors who called police. Police reported finding Hamilton asleep upstairs in a nearby house belonging to his fiance. The front door to the house is only about 15 feet from the curb of Walnut Street. Hamilton told police he went to sleep about midnight and was not aware his children had left the home. However, court papers say, he did admit that he knew his oldest was able to open the front door. The warrant for his arrest shows, the children actually live with their mother in Arkansas. However, they were with Hamilton as part of his visitation rights. Children Services assisted in the case and took both toddlers into state custody. Hamilton is currently free on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on June 27 at 1:30 p.m.
