Jobs Headed to Crockett County
Building construction along Highway 412 in Bells is becoming more common. With a new Bank of Crockett and a restaurant under construction, as well as a McDonald’s-Flash Market on the way, city officials said it is only a matter of time before jobs will follow. “I am hoping maybe a hundred at least,” said Bells Mayor Harold Craig. According to Craig, the unemployment rate in Crockett County sits just above 10 percent, but that could soon change. “Get a hundred people some jobs, that cuts it down a lot,” Craig said. With businesses spanning across west Tennessee and Mississippi, Keith Reynolds is now building a new restaurant and adding about 20 jobs to Bells. “I just decided, being home, I did not have anything here so I started another little project,” Reynolds said. “If Crockett County is going to grow, I think [Bells] is the area it is going to grow in.” Craig believes this is just the beginning. “I say in 10 years, Highway 412 is going to pretty well be solid with retail businesses,” said Craig. He said the new bank is scheduled to open in September, while Reynolds said his restaurant will open some time in August. Craig said ground breaking for the McDonald’s/Flash Market is scheduled to begin in the a couple of weeks.
