People Stealing Metal and Debris in Carroll County
Investigators in Carroll County say they are noticing a large increase in the amount of scrap metal theft reports in the area. They say reports are coming in every couple of days. They believe the issue is related to high unemployment rates. “The economy is just not in good shape job wise and I think that just brings more people out to try to look for a way to own some money,” said Investigator Jackie Wallace. Most of the reports come from properties that appear to be abandoned. Thieves appear to be targeting items such as old cars, farm equipment or electric wiring. Investigator are working closely with scrap yards to keep track of who is bringing in what. Wallace warns residents who own on farmland equipment or vacant property, to check it often and report anything suspicious. “[It would help] if all their neighbors would just watch out for each other and keep an eye on what’s going on in your neighborhood,” said Inv. Wallace. “We’ll be glad to come out and take care of any concerns that they may have.”
