Family Wants Answers in Fatal House Fire
“He came down to our house about 5:30, and he seemed alright,” said Richard Fitzgerald. Tuesday evening was the last time he saw his brother-in-law, Jimmy Tharpe alive. Paris fire officials worked to save the 47-year-old’s home and Tharpe who was inside. “I mean why, I didn’t know exactly what happen, but the question is, what happen,” asked Mary Humphries. She said the front door is the only way in and out of her friend’s home, and explained that is why fire officials could not make it inside to rescue Tharpe, until about 1:30 Wednesday morning, when the fire was completely out. “I guess he was in there about an hour or more,” witnessed Fitzgerald. Searching for immediate answers, Tharpe’s family waited for officials to leave so they could begin their own investigation. “Nothing on the stove is burnt, even grease is on the skillet on the stove its just strange, what was he thinking,” questioned Humphries. Paris investigators are keeping tight lipped until the investigation is complete, which leaves the Tharpe family still waiting. “I haven’t heard anything yet, hopefully we will hear something tomorrow,” said Fitzgerald. Tharpe’s family said he was taken to Nashville for an autopsy, which will determine his exact cause of death.
