With high temperatures and rising humidity, both are proving to be a deadly combination which is magnified even more in a closed car. Safety experts said the heat is dangerous, not only for those who work and play outside, but also for kids who are left in vehicles. Since 1998, through just last week, 500 children have died after being left unintentionally in a hot car, that according to the Child Safety Organization, “Kids and Cars.” Just last summer, 49 children in the U.S. died from vehicular heat stroke. Temperatures can exceed 120 degrees, even with windows partially open. Here are some tips to prevent a heat related car tragedy. Never leave a child unattended in a car or truck. When you stop, check to make sure everyone is out, place items in the backseat near children as a reminder of the kids, have a plan with your childcare provider to call if your child does not show up and if you see a child in a car alone on a hot day, call 911 and get them out.
