It is official. The current director of operations for the Jackson-Madison County School System, Buddy White will take over as interim superintendent on July 1. Thursday night, the school board approved White’s appointment as they continue to search for a permanent leader. The board also approved a $96 million dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year. But one thing they are struggling to afford are Pre-K classes, which are at risk of being cut all together. “Pre-K is really an intervention before kids ever come to school and more and more we are seeing kids some to school that are not prepared and so the Pre-K is really and important intervention,” said Bob Alvey, chairman of the Jackson-Madison County School Board. The board plans to recommend the three Pre-K programs be located at Nova, Lane and Malesus Elementary Schools. Thursday night also marked the final school board meeting for outgoing Superintendent Nancy Zambito. Her last day with the district is June 30.
