The Lagoon Creek Combined Cycle Gas Plant was officially dedicated in Haywood County, Thursday. The Tennessee Valley Authority describes it as the first of its kind built in the state. The power plan has been operational since September. Combined cycle plants us combustion turbines, similar to jet engines to produce electricity. Heat from the turbines’ exhaust is then captured to heat water and produce steam that is sent to a steam turbine that generated additional power. Using the excess heat from the engines reduced fuel and cuts emissions. “Well, it gives us good clean reliable power. it gives us the opportunity to recruit industry, because they know that we have good clean reliable power,” said Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith. “And is a great benefit to this community.” TVA leaders said the power plant employs 30 staff members.
