Pet First Aid Demonstrated Downtown
Life-saving tactics for pets and owners took center stage in downtown Jackson, Thursday. It is all part of “Pet First Aid Day,” held in conjunction with National CPR and AED Awareness Week. Members of the Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and Downtown Dogs group organized the event, which included demonstrations of taking care of a wounded pet and how to give your pet CPR. Organizers told ABC 7 Eyewitness News having an emergency plan is important for every member of your family, including pets. “You never know when that person or that pet is going to need your help, said Sue Hart of the Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. “You don’t know if that person is going to start choking. You don’t know if that person’s heart is going to stop. Something needs to be done and if you don’t want to lose that pet, you don’t want to lost that best friend of your wife and kids, how hard would that be to let one of them go down just as well as you would your pet.” Organizers with the Downtown Dogs group also had dogs available for adoption. Red Cross officials will offer two free sessions of hands-on human CPR and AED demonstrations at their downtown office, Friday morning and afternoon.
