A verdict has been handed down in the trial of a McNairy County man accused of beating his neighbor to death during a fight over property lines. Originally charged with voluntary manslaughter, Stanly Alexander was convicted, Thursday evening of a lesser charge of aggravated assault in the death of Johnny Burkhead. The jury deliberated just a short time before returning with their decision. Earlier in the day, the victim’s 9-year-old grandson testified to what he witnessed in March of last year. Alexander also took the stand in his own defense. His sentencing is set for September 2.
