Woman Charged with Child Abuse in Bells
It is business as usual in Bells, but rumblings of why a home on Greatest Cove is wrapped in crime tape is circling around the community. “We’ve never seen any of them. I think I’ve seen him at the store, but I have no idea what the girl looks like, or who she is or anything,” said Corey Hart who lives down the street from the home. Police said a man lives at the home with his two young kids and girlfriend. On Tuesday, they said the couple took a trip to Humboldt Hospital with his badly beaten 17- month- old. “That’s where our investigation began, the injuries of the child was inflicted by one of the two in the home,” explained Bells Police Chief Illandis Smith. While the baby was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where authorities said she is being treated for severe brain injuries, Chief Smith said he began to question the little girl’s father and girlfriend. Police are staying tight lipped about their investigation, but Thursday afternoon, they did arrest 24-year- old Molly Jane Roe, the father’s girlfriend for aggravated child abuse. “You can’t do that to a child. You have to be not sane to do that to a child. She has to have issues, I don’t wonder what’s wrong with her, I know something is wrong with her,” said Stacey Yance, who lives nearby. “That’s awful. I feel for them, the little girl at least,” said Hart. Chief Smith said the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests could be made. He added if the child should die from her injuries, Roe will face a charge of first degree murder.
