Reward Offered In Eagle Shooting

Federal and state wildlife agencies are offering a $2,500 reward for information in the shooting of a golden eagle in the Iuka area of Tishomingo County.

Authorities say eagle was discovered in the Burnsville community near Tishomingo County Road 306. The investigation revealed the eagle was shot between March 15 and April 7. It had a bullet in its left wing, and due to its injuries, the bird could not have flown far from where it was shot.

The two-year-old golden eagle is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Jackson Zoo. Authorities say it possibly will not fly again.

Golden eagles are protected by both federal and state wildlife laws. Violations of these laws carry maximum criminal penalties of up to $100,000 and/or one year in federal prison.
