City leaders in Adamsville said the ink is drying on a new lease with a Memphis company planning to bring in more than 100 employment opportunities to the area. “Approximately a year ago Don Hopper, CEO of American Power Sports Manufacturing Company, approached our retired city manager Terry Thrasher and said he was looking for a building,” said Steve Simon, city administrator for the City of Adamsville. Simon said Hopper was shown a city-owned building, negotiations began and a lease was just signed sealing the deal. Officials said Garan Manufacturing Company gave the building to the city after it closed its doors several years ago. Since the closing, city officials say they have paid $28,000 annually for utilities. According to officials, American Power Sports signed a five year lease at $1,000 a month. They stipulated the rent in the future would be based on the amount of jobs the company brought in. “It’s going to be mechanical work , hand/eye coordination, obviously assembly. There will be, as we understand, welding in the future,” said Simon. Simon said American Power Sports makes UTVs, ATVs, motorcycles, and motor scooters. Simon said the new jobs will be not only be good for job seekers, but also for the economy of McNairy County. “We welcome the new company. The business right now is slower than before,” said Prakash Patel, manager of Deerfield Inn.
