Man Charged with Aggravated Assault in Hit and Run
“There is no reason Richard should have been run down with a car,” said Greg Noyes, one of Richard Meadlock’s closest friends. Tuesday night, Henry County deputies said they responded to a 911 call on Manleyville Road in Springville. It was there that they found Meadlock lying in his driveway. Deputies said the story began earlier Tuesday evening, when Meadlock met with his girlfriend at Hollywood Lounge. Later that night, authorities said the two left the bar, and got into an argument at Meadlock’s home. Somehow authorities said the woman’s husband was called. “When we arrived at Mr. Meadlocks residence, he did say his wife was standing away from Mr. Meadlock. Then she ran in front of the truck and as she ran over and got in the driver side, according to Guy Wiggins, Mr. Meadlock picked up a wooden stick and came towards the vehicle,” said Director Damon Lowe, of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said Wiggins told them he felt as if he and his wife’s life was in danger, so he ran Meadlock over with his truck. “Mr Wiggins did back up and actually get the address of where he was and he was the person who made the call that he had run over someone,” added Dir. Lowe. While Wiggins was taken into custody, Meadlock was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where authorities said he suffers from 23 broken ribs, collapsed lungs, a broken breastbone and multiple breaks in his back. “Whenever i found out about it today, I just couldn’t imagine, how somebody could do this,” said Megan Hollingsworth. Her parents own the Hollywood Lounge, and said now they are taking up donations there, to help with Meadlock’s medical bills. “If he took a butt whipping for messing around with a married women, that’s different, but you don’t try to kill a man with a car,” said Hoyes. Meadlock is in critical condition. Deputies said Guy Wiggins faces aggravated assault charges, and is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond, in Henry County. On Thursday morning, he will face a judge.
