Police Annex Renovations Continue
Renovations are going on now to a vacant building that will soon become part of the Jackson Police Department. The building, located in the 400 block of East Main Street was the former home of Bell South. The city of Jackson was leasing the building, but recently the city council voted to purchase the building to help give the police department some much needed space. To save the city money, restoration, including painting of the building is being done by city workers. Once completed, the police departments’ Criminal Investigation and Special Operations divisions will move into the building, meaning the two departments will be able to work with one another in fighting crime. “It’s going to let us combine three of our investigating components, being our drugs, gangs and our criminal investigation,” said Chief Gill Kendrick of the Jackson Police Department. “They work in such closeness to one another anyway, so it will be a really good marriage for them to be in a place where they can really work and communicate together.” The two JPD divisions are expected to move into the renovated facility in the next couple of months.
