Crime Report Shows Mixed Results
A 10-year study by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has found that some violent crimes and property crimes have decreased, but drug and disorderly conduct cases have increased.
The report released Monday found that property crimes decreased by 9 percent and Group A offenses, such as assault, murder and sex cases, decreased by 0.3 percent.
Kristin Helm, who is spokeswoman for the TBI, told The Tennessean that overall violent crime is at its lowest level, but Group B offenses such as liquor law violations, trespassing and disorderly conduct have increased by more than 150 percent.
Drug cases have surged 45 percent higher since 2001. Domestic violence cases have grown by more than 17 percent.
