Beer Board Suspends Club License
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, members of the City of Jackson Beer Board voted to suspend the alcohol permit for Club Diamond on 451 East College Street. Club Diamond, owned by Lemont Williams, 28, was cited for not following proper closing procedures and selling liquor without a permit. Jackson City Attorney Lewis Cobb says the club had a history of calls for police assistance and did not follow proper city codes. “If (the owner) continues to operate that way, there will be consequences, probably greater consequences next time,” Cobb says. Williams did not make a statement to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, but testified at the meeting that he has worked for years to run an upstanding business. He says the club is a primary source of income for him and his three employees. The Beer Board suspended the license for 90 days, essentially ending alcohol sales for the summer. Williams and Club Diamond will be able to resume sales, once the suspension period is over, officials say.
