With the 4th of July just days away, an agency that collects blood for hospitals and clinics across West Tennessee is gearing up for a celebration to mark the holiday. Lifeline Blood Services is hosting its Patriotic Blood Drive, Friday. Center leaders said the effort is designed to make certain blood is available during the summer holiday. Donors will get a patriotic t-shirt. “Summertime is a really hard time for folks to remember their blood donations,” said Cherie Parker of Lifeline Blood Services. “We are so busy with trips and ball games that our schedules get kind of out of whack.” Lifeline provides 500 units of blood each week to patients at 19 West Tennessee hospitals.
