Lambuth Negotiations Continue
With the doors to Lambuth University set to close for good Wednesday, community leaders said negotiations for the city, county West Tennessee Healthcare and Jackson Energy Authority to purchase the property are continuing. According to Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist, the stakeholders are continuing to talk with the major creditor, Radian Assurance. Radian holds about $5 million of the debt with Lambuth officials saying about $5.43 is owed to others. The mayor said the campus will go dark on Thursday, with or without a deal. Community and state leaders are working to bring a satellite campus for the University of Memphis to the Lambuth campus. Those who live in the Lambuth area have made it known they want to see the university to come into their neighborhood.
